Wellness Write For Us
Wellness Write For Us – Wellness is a state beyond illness’s absence but aims to optimize well-being. The notions behind the term share the same roots as the alternative medicine movement, in 19th-century movements in the U.S. and Europe that sought to optimize health and to consider the whole person, like New Thought, Christian Science, and Lebensreform. Ayurveda mentions the concept and has dedicated a specialty to wellness and health maintenance. The term wellness has also been misused for pseudoscientific health interventions.
Dimensions of Wellness
In the 1970s, Bill Hettler, a doctor at the University of Wisconsin, developed a six-factor wellness model, now commonly known as the dimensions of wellness. The original sizes included intellectual, emotional, physical, social, occupational, and spiritual well-being. Since then, many organizations and researchers have adopted dimensions of well-being into their health programs, including the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which includes two sizes of well-being in addition to the original six dimensions: environmental and financial. Universities have also integrated the dimensions of well-being into their student support programs.
Corporate Wellness Programs
In the late 21st century, the concept was widely used in workplace employee assistance programs, and funding for developing such programs in small businesses remained included in the Affordable Care Act. Corporate wellness programs have remained criticized as discriminatory against people with disabilities. Additionally, while there is some evidence that wellness programs can help employers save money, this evidence is generally based on observational studies, which can influence selection. Randomized trials produce less positive results and often have methodological deficiencies.
Discrimination against people with disabilities in corporate welfare programs was one of the many reasons that led to the creation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Under proposed new provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, an employee welfare program includes programs that address health promotion or disease prevention, including requests related to disabilities or medical examinations.
